Forget Virtual Beers, Send Your Friends Real Colorado Native Lager
For a Buck with Your Smart Phone
Ever had a friend send you a ‘virtual’ beer? What’s the use except to make you thirsty and slightly resentful? Well Colorado Native lager and Bartab have teamed up to give consumers a way to send friends coupons for real beers that they can redeem at their favorite local bar with their smart phone.
“Colorado Native looks for innovative ways to build real relationships with our drinkers,” said Glenn Knippenberg, president and co-founder of AC Golden Brewing Company, brewers of Colorado Native. “We go to where they are – on their phones – and offer them via social media things they are truly interested in. Colorado Native is the first brand ever to collaborate with Bartab to provide consumers with this innovative way to celebrate and share with friends.”
Bartab is a mobile application that offers legal drinking age consumers a way to send and receive electronic coupons redeemable for real $1 drinks at local bars and restaurants with their mobile phone. Until its partnership with Colorado Native, Bartab worked solely with retail establishments for the service.
Here’s how it works: beginning November 1, click on a Colorado Native QR code with your smart phone or download a SnapTag app and click on the SnapTag on the Colorado Native package or visit www.coloradonative.bartab.com to receive up to five $1.00 Colorado Native coupons to send to friends. Pick the friend(s) and whatever watering hole you want to send them to from a list of participating bars. The friend receives the coupon via smart phone, shows it to the bartender and pays only one dollar to receive a Colorado Native. If the beer is sent or redeemed via Facebook, a post is instantly generated on the user’s wall. The beer can only be sent to those of legal drinking age and wall posts only appear on the pages of friends who are 21+.
“This program goes beyond virtual advertising efforts, such as social media, by providing real product fulfillment to customers in real time. Now you can literally send your friend a Colorado Native to drink at the bar for a dollar – talk about a friend referral!” said Steve Johnson, CEO of Webtab Inc.
“As a small brewer that depends on word-of-mouth to sell its beers, we can’t do much better than having our customers recommend and offer our beer for their friends to enjoy,” said Knippenberg. “Now people can buy their friends in Colorado a beer from anywhere in the world.
Other innovative moves by Colorado Native include being the first consumer package goods product ever to place a SnapTag on its packaging – a move many brands are now replicating. The beer also conducted a one-of-a-kind hop grower project that resulted in 500 Colorado Native drinkers volunteering to grow hops for the beer.

AC Golden Introduces Colorado Native Lager -- Brewed Locally with Colorado Ingredients
Our newest beer arrives in Colorado this week -- Colorado Native, a full-bodied lager brewed in Colorado with virtually all Colorado ingredients, more than any other beer.
Made with water from the Colorado mountains, barley grown in the San Luis Valley, yeast from Golden and some hops grown by friends and family, this is truly a beer native to Colorado. Even its bottles are made in Colorado.
We're proud to provide Coloradans a beer they can truly call their own," said Glenn Knippenberg, president of AC Golden. "Partnering with local farmers and manufacturers, and using local ingredients keeps our carbon footprint small and supports our fellow Coloradans. So now, whether you were born here or came to Colorado because you love the lifestyle, Coloradans have a beer that celebrates our way of life."
Colorado Native is a brilliant amber lager made with pale and caramel malts from Moravian two-row barley. It is a very well-balanced beer that delivers a clean taste and dry finish that is good on its own or with a wide array of foods.
Instead of using traditional advertising to get the word out about Colorado Native, AC Golden is using social media networks and mobile marketing, including Denver-based SpyderLynk's SnapTags. SnapTags is a state-of-the-art technology that allows the consumer to 'snap' a picture of the beer's logo with their cell phone and text it to Colorado Native to begin a real one-on-one dialogue with the beer.

AC Golden’s Belgian- style Saison aims to bring the drinker a taste of the old days with a flavorful, slightly tart finish that is sure to satisfy. 4.8% ABV 25 IBUs.

In Dick's 4/7/10 column in the Denver Post, he reviews Colorado Native, saying: "Even the label, featuring muted colors reminiscent of a 1930s poster for a Western dude ranch, is out of the ordinary.
